Gunstock Ranch is a 400 acre working ranch located at the base of the beautiful Koolau Mountain Range on Oahu's North Shore. In addition to livestock sales and boading, Gunstock Ranch offers some of Hawaii's finest horseback riding trails. Meandering through the majestic Ko'olau mountains you will come to viewpoints that overlook miles of Oahu's finest coastline. Gunstock Ranch is also the only ranch on Oahu offering guided Moonlight Rides each full moon.
Gunstock Ranch has been in the Smith family for over 35 years. Originally from Arizona, Max Smith was a third generation rancher. He moved to the islands in 1965 to become a state meat inspector. He was later elevated to state veterinarian. Smith was Hawaii state veterinarian until 1994, retiring after 19 years. Max Smith has also received the honor of being added to the Paniolo Hall of Fame.
Guided Horseback Trail Rides
Keiki Rides 20 minutes
20-minute "pony walk" for children 2-7yrs old or those unable to ride by themselves. Our staff will lead your choice of a horse or pony, and parent can walk along to take pictures. 11:00am or 3:00pm
Morning Ride 90 minutes
Enjoy a 90-minute guided ride through the majestic natural beauty of the Ko'olau mountains above Laie with a view of the Windward coastline. Suitable for all skill levels ages 7 and up. 9:00am
Sweetheart Ride 2 hours
This 2 hour ride is designed with couples in mind. A wrangler will escort you on a private horseback ride to a scenic point where we will set a picnic blanket with refreshments. You will be left alone for 30 minutes to enjoy the beautiful scenery and your sweetheart's company. Your wrangler will care for your horses, help you back on your horses, and escort you back to the stable. Single party rides, maximum of 3 couples booking together. Suitable for all skill levels. 11:00am or 3:00pm
Afternoon Scenic Ride 90 minutes
Enjoy a 90-minute guided ride up the mountains to a high lookout spot with a great opportunity for beautiful sunset pictures on horseback and a chance to sit and watch the sun set. Suitable for all skill levels ages 7 and up. 4:30pm
Advanced Trail Rides 60 minutes
Enjoy a 60-minute guided ride. This ride provides the opportunity for a controlled option to trot and canter according to the ability of the rider. Offered for a maximum of 4 riders and offered once per day. Experienced riders only. 11:00am or 3:00pm
Lunch Ride 4 hours
This premier 4-hour horseback ride will take you through beautiful hills and valleys while providing time for lunch with spectacular scenery. Your lunch will be carried by horseback for you to enjoy at a beautiful rest point along your ride. Suitable for all skill levels ages 10 and up. 9:00am
Moonlight Rides 60 minutes
Enjoy a 60-minute ride under the light of the Hawaiian full moon offered twice a month. Ride leaves according to moon rise schedule. Hawaii`s only moonlight ride! Suitable for all skill levels ages 10 and up. approximately 6:00pm. 2-3 days before the full moon.

Check in: At least 30 minutes prior to scheduled ride time at Gunstock Ranch, 56-250 Kamehameha Highway in Laie town (North Shore of Oahu).
Weight limit : 225lbs.
Trail ride rules & regulations:
*Parents and Guardians must sign for Minor children 7-17 years of age.
*All riders must be (7) seven years of age with height of 4 feet 4 inches to qualify for horseback trail rides unless otherwise noted.
*Only one rider per horse, weight must not exceed 225lbs.
*Consumption of Alcoholic beverages is forbidden on the rides or immediately prior to ride time. Detection of alcohol will disqualify.
*Video Cameras and Cellular phones can cause horses to “spook” please do not carry them on the trail rides. Cell phones should be completely turned off.
*Running or Trotting of the horses is not allowed. Guides will adjust the ride to keep everyone together.
*All riders must abide by the trail guides instructions. Do not leave the position you were assigned in the ride lineup. Horses will vie for position, please control them as instructed.
*Any purposeful attempt to run, trot or take a different turn will result in disqualification of your ride. You will be instructed to dismount.
*Helmets are considered personal protective equipment. It is highly recommended that all persons wear a ATSM/SEI approved helmet, helmets provided.
*Appropriate riding attire is long pants (jeans), shorts, shoes/boots/tennis or flats and walking shoes. Dresses/skirts, high heels and articles that may pose a risk to riders/horses will be prohibited.
*Facilities at the Stables do not have lockers or storage for valuables. Please limit your items to your pocket or fanny pack.
*Liability Waivers must be thoroughly read and signed and handed to the trail guide upon arrival at the riding stables.

Gunstock Ranch is located at 56-250 Kamehameha Highway in Laie town
From the Waikiki/Honolulu Area, plan on a 70 minute drive.
You will drive through valleys and along the base of beautiful mountain ranges passing such locations as the Crouching Lion and the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Take the ramp onto Highway H1 West
Take exit 21B to merge onto HI-61 N/Pali Hwy
Turn left at Kamehameha Hwy
Turn left at Likelike Hwy
Turn right at Kahekili Hwy
Continue straight onto Kamehameha Hwy for about 20 miles
Gunstock ranch is well marked with a large visible sign on the Highway. Located on the Left side of Kamehameha Highway.
From Haleiwa, plan on a 30 minute drive.
You will drive along beautiful coastline and past famous beaches like Waimea and Banzai Pipeline.
Turn left onto Kamehameha Hwy
Continue straight onto Kamehameha Hwy for about 15 miles
Gunstock ranch is well marked with a large visible sign on the Highway. Located on the Right side of Kamehameha Highway.
