This fully narrated, intimate group tour will take you to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to see the glowing volcano craters at twilight. As you visit various locations around the stunning Big Island of Hawaii, our staff will share information about Hawaii’s unique history, culture and geography to teach you about this beautiful place we call home.
We will start our journey traveling along the scenic Saddle Road, which will give us a stunning view of the the world’s tallest sea mountain, Mauna Kea , as well as the world’s most massive mountain, Mauna Loa. Our first stop will be at the beautiful Rainbow Falls, where we will have a short visit, and then we will continue on to the Hawaii Volcano National Park with a round trip of the Chain of Craters Road . We will make numerous stops to see the lava flows and eruption sites. We will also visit the remarkable Holei Sea Arch along the park coastline. If conditions permit, we will have the unique opportunity to view the active lava flow from the end of the road.
Other notable sites we will visit during the tour include Thurston Lava Tube, Kilauea Iki Lookout, the Steam Vents, and the Jaggar Museum. We will then visit one of the wonders of the Big Island, the Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, which is home to many green sea turtles. We will end our trip with a breathtaking view of the glowing red lava inside Halemaumau Crater.
Pick Up Times: Tours run daily. Pick-ups from Kona and Kohala resorts begins at 10:30am. Drop off to Kona resorts will be around 10:30pm and to Kohala resorts around 10:00pm. Pick up from Hilo hotels will be at 1:30pm and drop off at 8:30pm.
What to Bring: Wear comfortable clothing, light sweater in case of cool weather. Covered walking shoes required.
