Swimming with Dolphins Review.
Amazing! My wife and I had swum with dolphins several before (Sea World's Discovery Cove, training and research centers in Japan and Hawaii, etc.), but all that paled compared to being able swim with them in the wild! The spinner dolphins we saw were as breathtakingly magical as you could imagine. Of course, we couldn't get close enough to touch them like we had in more structured encounters, but we didn't expect to see them as close as we did so many times and in pods of such numbers! I'd say it was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, but we will definitely be going again the next time we're in Hawaii.
Everyone involved treated us with the warmth and courtesy we've always been spoiled by in Hawaii. The staff at Honu Hawaii Activities practically bent over backwards to accommodate our tight travel schedule and some rather particular requests. I can't say enough about their courteous and generous service. Likewise, the crew on the diving boat were both professional and entertaining. Honestly, I had some concerns about the possibility of harassing wild dolphins, chasing them down to give some tourists a thrill, but their approach could not have been further from my fears--they treated the dolphins with utmost respect, passively positioning us in the water well ahead and allowing the dolphins to navigate freely around us. Thanks guys! We can't wait to come back!
One word of advice: rent the wetsuit. The early morning Pacific can be a bit chilly.
